Q-Tip - Let's Ride

My favourite Hip hop track. It sounded instantly nostalgic the day it was released. Some great little lines and for it really captures that feeling of freedom that your first car gives you and you go for a ride with some great music, just because you can.

I love that they drive a Lambo LM002 in the video too!  Nice cult car choice.

R.E.M - Hairshirt

I had never really got REM.
I have always enjoyed "Night Swimming" and "It's The End Of The World", but never really rated the band until I heard this.

I'm very late to the party on this track and only first heard it within the last 12 months.

Utterly beautiful, evocative and powerful. A track to enjoy on your own.

Fat Larry's Band - Zoom.

Nearly 10 years since my last posts I have decided to dabble with this again. Since my last post lots has changed in my life, but the most major one is I now have a daughter. It dawned on me that one day I would love her to see this and hear the songs which I love, so I wanted to document them when they came to mind.

The first one I wanted to post was the first song I played to her in the car on the way home from the hospital.

quite simply timeless. Bob Sinclar's Remix of "Love Is Psychedelic" by Fantastic Plastic Machine. Man, I can only imagine what it must be like to find a club where they play this music on this level instead of "show me love" on repeat.

one of the best tracks of all time "james brown - this is a mans world" sampled to perfection with some of the toughest drums ever. Pure badness. I love the way it comes in, kinda out of time, but not... awesome.

wow!!! just came across this remix of a classic track. this remix was out back when the original was around, but i totally missed it. its brilliant!!! the way her voice floats across the track. amazing!!!!

Burial - Archangel (Phaseone Remix)

Not the easiet tune to remix, but this is big and dirty!!! one of them tunes to listen to late at night when driving through london on your own.

Mr. Hudson - There Will Be Tears

Tunes like this are the exact reason i made this blog. Pure musical gems. I worry that this will get too rinsed one day and ill hate it, but right now.....this is the stuff!!! Produced by Kanye West, the vocal is where its at. I wish they would make a dub and go to town with a vocoder and chops on the vocal over that instrumental...who knows, maybe ill do it myself!!

Sylvers - Only One Can Win

I first heard this ont he Jay Dilla track that sampled it. I loved what Jay had done with it, a few listens to the original after recommendation from a friend: http://odetothebigsea.blogspot.com and im in love with it. The chorus has this magical floating kinda feeling to it. The whole record is built on anticipation of the chorus.... it just works!!! Can't get enough of it!!

Joey Youngman - Double Stacked

Going back a few months, but this record really makes sense to me at the moment, massive dirty chunky drums with sick bass and wicked samples. Proper house music. This i can get down to!! I only wish more bars/clubs played this sort of music!!!

Empire of The Sun - Walking On A Dream

QUALITY disco track, heard Zane Low playing this and loved it instantly, reminds me of something Pheonix would do, just great pop music.

what a TUNE! silky smooth!! reminds me of r-kellys chocolate factory album, this is just pure goodness soulful rnb. makes me want to get hold of the vocals and remix!

Knee Deep - Darling

This is a very clever record, when i had heard that knee deep had sampled "my cherie amour" i knew i was going to like it.....but i didnt expect it to be THIS good. very clever use of the "la la la la la" bit. rearranging the pattern and adding pads underneath to give an almost magical feel to the track. Superb!!

Takes a little while to get going so bare with it. When it kicks in though......wow. Can only imagine how good this would sound with an ibiza sunset.

This tune is everywhere at the moment, i first heard it when radio one premiered it and it instantly made me turn the radio up full wack. Energy and soul is a perfect combination and they pull it off perfectly. Just an all round great record. I hope the radios don't play it out quickly!!

John Legend & Andre 3000 - Greenlight

The second i saw these two had collabed, i knew it would be superb!! they didnt disapoint!! pure vibes and a really cool video. top marks!! i just wish it had come out earlier in the year when we had some sunshine to go with it!!

Duke - So In Love With You

It's a little old this one, going back to 1994 actually!!! But my days... pure funk!!! was re-released 2000, and its this version that i came across. Soulful as you like vocals and killer instrumental. Cant help but sing along to this tune!!! Found this one when searching for "womanchild" which was remixed by Todd Edwards. The original of womanchild is worth a listen too!! great track.
